What Is Financial Freedom?

by Kelvin Davis

There are many definitions as to what financial freedom may be.

Some say financial freedom is living a life without any debts while others say financial freedom is a function of time or money or a combination of both. The function of time, meaning setting targets and coming up with a plan to have time freedom, but with that comes the basic dependency on money.

Robert Kiyosaki taught me that financial freedom is ‘when the passive income exceeds monthly expenses’. (This is a simple formula)

To me, financial freedom is much more than just having money to pay the monthly bills. It is the freedom to be ‘who you really are and doing what you want in life’. It is the opportunity to live your dream the way you want. It is about following your passion and making choices that are not influenced by your bank account but instead living life on ‘your own terms’.

In order to be financially free, Marisa and I made a lot of sacrifices and personal development work. We became different people letting go of everything that held us back. This became a process of growth, self-development, including gaining spiritual and emotional strength.

In return, the achievement of dreams, including time freedom, is the true reward of financial freedom. The process is ‘financial freedom’ as the first step and must come before the second step, ‘time freedom’.

At this second stage, time, suddenly becomes more precious than money.

So remember that in the end it is not just about money.
